Western Taiwan

November 22nd, 2009 by website in Uncategorized · No Comments

If you want contrasts, head to ; western Taiwan and start at the coastline, continue through rich farmland and end in the high mountains of the central range. In fact, for a study in contrasts, just head to the Alishan National Scenic Area. Here you can travel through three biogeographical zones – tropical, subtropical and temperate – in just three hours (a rare old single-track alpine railway is your carriage). But unless you have unlimited time, the west’s contrasts will demand you choose from among them. Should you explore Taiwan’s southern Chinese heritage (which includes a great collection of temples) or its aboriginal culture? Should you join a pilgrimage for the goddess of the sea or learn to meditate at a Buddhist temple? Should you climb one of the highest mountains in East Asia or cycle easy bike lanes through the countryside? Of all the regions in Taiwan, this is one we suggest you follow our advice for most carefully (which includes letting you know those areas you don’t need to follow our advice). While there are some real treasures out there, there’s also a lot of dismal wasteland. In general, the cities can be given a miss except as jumping-off points. For smaller towns, don’t miss
Lukang, Puli and, to a lesser extent, Changhua, even if your time is tight. Forget the miles of coastline unless you like Styrofoam, cables, plastic and – you get the picture. Look to the rice fields, the mountains and Sun Moon Lake, the largest body of water in Taiwan, for your scenic fix.

Acne Program Step 9 Protein

November 21st, 2009 by website in Uncategorized · No Comments

Eating the right kind of food is what can give you a strong immune system and help you prevent sickness and all kinds of skin blemishes including acne.

Here are some of the foods that can help you overcome the acne on your face or throughout your body.

Protein

Eating excess meat is harmful to your health. Eating too much meat, more than 2-4 ounces per day, has been found to contribute to narrowing of the arteries.

If you do physical labor and are involved in a lot of movement in your work, then you should eat more than 2-4 ounces of protein per day. Just make sure that the meat has a minimum of additives and preservatives.

Remember, meat is high in saturated fat, which blocks the activity of EPA and DHA, which produce prostaglandin and control the activity of your hormones.

Meat and bread is a big contributor to creating constipation. Meat is difficult to digest and many times it will get into the colon partial digested. This condition benefits the bad bacteria and allows them to dominate the colon and create constipation.

Because meat and bread have little fiber, they move slowly in the colon, which leads to constipation and eventually to some type of colon inflammation.

Bad bacteria, decaying meat and other undigested food contribute to the build up of toxic matter in the colon. This is the type of condition you should try to avoid, if you have acne. You need fecal matter in the colon to move regularly and out the rectum, otherwise, toxic matter will build up and end up in your blood stream

Here are the grains you should be eating:

  • Brown rice – contain many amino acids that help rebuild skin tissue
  • Whole grains – contain folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin E, B vitamins, minerals, and fiber
  • Oats – use them in the morning with honey or raisins. Oats have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and help to keep you regular.

Seeds and nuts

  • Almonds – Almonds contain protein, the B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Use them as a snack. These small nuts help to build muscles and tissue.
  • Flax seeds – These seeds are known for containing plenty of omega 3 oil, an essential oil for life. They also contain fiber when used ground up and put into smoothies. Omega 3 is also an anti-inflammatory oil, which is good for acne.
  • Pecans – This is one of the good nuts to eat. It contains Vitamin A, B’s, C, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Use them as a snack.
  • Pine nuts – these nuts also one of the best to eat. They contain vitamin A, C, B’s, protein and iron.
  • Sesame seeds – They are high in calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. They are helpful in relieving various skin diseases such as acne by reducing the swelling.
  • Sunflower seeds – These seeds should be used as a snack. They are high in protein, calcium and vitamin A. They provide nutrients for building the whole body and are good for dry skin.

CARNIVAL 2010 party planner

November 20th, 2009 by website in Uncategorized · No Comments

Photo by Silviano for www.ipanema.com. All rights reserved. Todos os direitos reservados. This photo is digitally watermarked and tracked. Property of www.ipanema.com. Carnival 2010 happens from February 13 (Saturday) through 16 (Tuesday). We suggest arriving a few days earlier. There’s so much to do and see during Carnival that you will not have much time left to explore the city. Try to plan your Carnival activities ahead to sample the variety. Include in your must-do’s the Samba Parade, street bands, and balls.

The whole summer is Carnival season. To avoid the higher rates charged by hotels during the main event, you could arrive one or two weeks ahead. Banda de Ipanema opens Carnival 2010 street festivities on January 30 (latest photos by Silviano available at riogayguide.com). On the following weekend on Friday (Feb. 5) Cordao da Bola Preta starts gathering at 5 p.m. at Praca Maua, Downtown. In Ipanema, there’s Banda Simpatia é Quase Amor on Saturday (February 6).

Samba School rehearsals are another great pre-Carnival idea. They happen every weekend at the samba courts, known as quadras de samba. These venues are in distant areas that are tricky to get to. Go with a group in a package including a local escort, and round-trip transportation. Once you’re inside, it’s very safe. Samba school percussion bands or baterias sometimes play live at popular South Side dance clubs and venues.

You may also consider a visit to the new City of the Samba, an area that was built specifically to lodge the workshops of Samba Schools, near the docks in the Downtown area. Though some details on floats are kept covered from prying eyes, you can see costumes being produced, and even participate in a mini-parade that happens at the end of the day on Thursdays.

The Samba Parade happens at the Sambodrome on February 14 and 15. The show starts at 9 p.m. and ends only with sunlight on the next day. We suggest trying to book your tickets ahead: seats at the Sambodrome are quite limited. On Sunday there is a line-up of six samba schools. On Monday six other samba schools do their magic for the grand finale.

Acne Program Step 5 Foods to Stop Eating

November 15th, 2009 by website in Uncategorized · No Comments

Even though many dermatologist and doctors don’t see the connection between your diet, constipation, a toxic colon, and a toxic liver with the acne that you are suffering from, it does not mean the food you eat is not important in clearing your acne.

If the doctors were right about food and the colon, then they would easily be able to help you clear your acne with their drugs. Drugs can give you temporary relief, it they work at all, but as you use them they can also give you some unpleasant side effects.

In her book, Food And Healing, 1986, Annemarie Colbin, points out,

"In a systems view of the body, input of all kinds relates to output of all kinds. Food, therefore, would have a definite relationship to matter pushed out through the skin. I am continually amazed that dermatologists persist in viewing the skin as merely a protective envelope for the body, ascribing its eruptions to ‘viruses’ and imprecise malfunctions and supporting the myth that ‘diet has nothing to do with acne.’

In my experience, diet has everything to do with acne. Not only did I fix my own bad skin through correct eating but I have seen among my students a number of severe cases – the large purplish kind of acne on cheeks and chins – completely cured within three months by a change of diet."

Foods to Stop Eating

If you smoke, drink alcohol or drink coffee, then this program will not work too well for you. When you have these addictions, your body’s minerals and vitamins will be out of balance and it will be difficult for you to achieve any state of good health.

So, here are they foods that you need to stop eating. You don’t need to stop eating these foods instantly. Not many people can do this. You need to do this gradually. I know it will be hard to stop eating some of these foods that you have enjoyed, over the years, but you have to ask yourself the question,

"Which do I want to be ?Acne free or a junk food addict?"

Not Quite an American Sweep at the Rolex FEI World Cup Finals

Rolex FEI World Cup Finals

Rolex FEI World Cup Finals

LAS VEGAS — The dream of an American sweep at the last Rolex FEI World Cup Finals to be held in the U.S. for years fell short of reality Sunday, as even two perfect rounds over the fences couldn’t enable McLain Ward to take the international indoor show jumping title.

Ward, the Olympic double gold medalist from New York, was not quite as fast as Germany’s Meredith Michaels Beerbaum in the first leg of the competition at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday night, and that proved to be the difference that gave her a third World Cup title.

Like Ward, who rode Sapphire, Beerbaum and her 16-year-old equine partner, Shutterfly, were penalty-free in the two-round power jumping finale before a vocal crowd of 7,497. Beerbaum retained the two-penalty lead over Ward that she carried into the class, but the world’s number-one ranked rider called her triumph “the hardest win I’ve ever had.”

Ward had worked on a plan since last year to be the first American show jumper since 1987 to earn the title. It could have been quite a coup if he emulated the achievement of his countryman, Steffen Peters, who took the Dressage World Cup honors Saturday night.

“I certainly would have liked to have won, but I’m proud of what my team, my horse and myself did,” said Ward. “We did the best we could, and 99 percent of the time, we would have won.”

The only other American to finish in the ribbons was Ward’s 2004 and 2008 Olympic teammate, Beezie Madden, 12th on an up-and-coming mount, Danny Boy. Third place went to the Netherlands’ Albert Zoer on Oki Doki, who stalked the leaders throughout the competition.

Since 2003, the Cup finals had been held every other year in Las Vegas, but because of the economy, the organizer withdrew bids for 2011 and 2013. It was announced after the show, however, that a bid will be put in for 2014.
